In a vaping device, the coil – also known as the atomizer coil – is the component that’s responsible for heating the e-liquid and turning it to vapor. You inhale the vapor and absorb the nicotine through your lungs, and that’s how vaping works in a nutshell. Almost since vaping began, most disposable vapes have had single-coil designs. Recent vapes have begun to integrate more coils into their designs, though, due to the demand for greater flavor and vapor production. A triple-coil vape has three heating coils rather than one – and as you’re about to learn, this design has some serious potential benefits.Â
In this overview, we’ll explain everything that you need to know about the latest triple-coil vapes.Â
What Vapes Have Triple-Coil Designs?
At the time of writing, there are only a few triple-coil vapes on the market. You can find this design in the latest vapes from Tyson Vape and Vaporesso, and that’s just about it. Most other disposable vapes have either one or two coils – and while those designs certainly have their merits, a lot of people are saying that triple-coil devices are even better in many ways. We’ll explain their two main benefits along with the one potential drawback that you need to know about.
A Triple-Coil Vape Gives You More Vapor per Puff
The biggest benefit of a triple-coil vape is that it gives you more vapor per puff compared to a single- or dual-coil vape. The reasons why that could be desirable might be obvious to you already, but it mainly comes down to these three things.
- If your device produces more vapor, it means that you’re blowing bigger clouds when you vape. For many people, chasing clouds is something that greatly enhances the enjoyment of vaping.Â
- Getting more vapor per puff means that you’ll get to enjoy stronger flavors. If flavor is one of the main things that keeps you interested in vaping, you’re definitely going to enjoy the bold flavor quality that you get from a triple-coil vape.
- Inhaling more vapor also means that you’re getting more nicotine per puff. That’ll be a compelling benefit for you if you’ve tried less powerful vapes and found that they weren’t quite satisfying enough. It’s very unlikely that you’ll have that problem with a triple-coil vape.
Triple-Coil Vapes Can Provide Enhanced Flavor Quality
This might not be immediately obvious, but because of the way a triple-coil vape works, you can enjoy enhanced flavor quality even if you’re only using your device in the less powerful single-coil mode. That’s because of how this type of vape works.
When you use a triple-coil vape in the single-coil mode, the device switches to a different coil each time you puff on it. This prevents one coil from wearing out before the others, keeping the flavor quality and vapor delivery consistent until the very end. That, however, isn’t the only flavor enhancement.
You’ve probably used a vape that began to produce a burnt flavor when it still had plenty of e-liquid left. That’s because of sucralose, which is the ingredient that makes vape juice taste sweet. Sucralose can make an e-liquid with a candy or fruit flavor profile taste very realistic, but it has a drawback in that it creates a burnt-tasting residue when it’s heated. The residue tastes quite foul, and it can form on a vape coil very quickly if the e-liquid that’s being used is very sweet.
Because a triple-coil vape divides the work between the three coils, it can last up to three times as long as a single-coil vape before it begins to taste burnt. That’s a huge benefit to flavor quality, and it means that you’ll likely be able to use all of the e-liquid in the device before noticing any decline in flavor quality.
A Triple-Coil Vape Uses More E-Liquid per Puff
As many benefits as a triple-coil vape can have, there’s also a potential drawback that you need to know about before you throw your device into the triple-coil mode and leave it there. While using the triple-coil mode triple’s your device’s vapor production, it also means that you’ll use the e-liquid about three times as quickly. With the increased e-liquid consumption in mind, you’ll need to reduce your expectation for the number of puffs that you’ll get out of the device.
Using the triple-coil mode doesn’t necessarily mean that your device’s total puff count will be reduced by two thirds. That’s because:
- You might take shorter puffs since your mouth will fill with vapor more quickly.
- You might also find yourself vaping less frequently because you’ll feel more satisfied due to the increased nicotine consumption.
If you have a vape with a capacity of up to 15,000 puffs, using the triple-coil mode won’t necessarily cut its life all the way down to 5,000 puffs – but you can definitely expect that you won’t get as many puffs as you would have gotten if you only used the device in the single-coil mode.
How Do You Use a Triple-Coil Vape?
There are two different ways to control a triple-coil vape, and the method to change the vaping mode depends on the device’s design. Your vape may have a button for changing the mode, or it may have a switch. You can change the mode by pressing the button or moving the switch. If your device has both a button and a switch, the button will change the mode, and the switch will adjust the airflow. A triple-coil vape will always have an integrated display that lets you know which mode is currently active.
When Is a Triple-Coil Vape Out of E-Liquid?
The smart display on a triple-coil vape will usually include an e-liquid meter that tells you approximately how much vape juice remains in the device. The meter, however, is only an approximation. The only way to know for sure that your device is empty is by paying attention to the way it tastes. When you begin to get a harsh, burnt flavor on every puff, your vape is empty.
